I went crazy.

.
.
.
.
Although the focusing is a little weird, I enjoyed using this camera, in the first few hours of the oppotunity to play with it.
Editing was also enjoyable as I could make every photo super light, because the originals were a bit dark and depressing...
btw image quality uploaded here is..pretty bad

Just wondering if anyone is going to the Grand Designs Live next Friday to Sunday?
I have changed my idea to Macro photography, im focsing on natural forms

Last Weeks Bedlam

Myself and Jack "attempted" to become rouge hounds of Hell over the September nightwing and, needing to share our maximal collected skills that a stick insect has more of over whats needed for photography. These after a little spray cover from Photoshop in my opinion were the best. Looking over this room, made me get slightly influenced by the details, shades and spaces over the glass walls and machines.

Here is another version of this photograph that's been manipulated on Photoshop. I think it is interesting because of the relationship between two colours red and green, which juxtapose each other.

This is the photograph I took last week in the studio. The aim of my work was to experiment with dramatic light.

Week 3

Hello all, its great to hear all the ideas you are generating for your 'Contrast' project. They are original, exciting, and some are very thought provoking as well. I can't wait to see these ideas develop into images. So this week we need to start making work! We need to play with techniques of image making, techniques of manipulation, and work with ideas about size, presentation, use of text, etc. As you start to become comfortable with recording your subject matter, we'll start to use your images to find the most suitable means to get your ideas across. Post any developments in your ideas, and start to show us some images so we can visualize these ideas and concepts. Also, don't forget to leave comments for your classmates .... its a great way to share working methods, materials, techniques, etc, and some people are working on similar themes so work together on this exploration!

This was taken in week 2 it doesn't really portray any contrasts but it's just me experimenting with the camera and studio lighting. As a theme I'm looking at the theme of beauty contrasting with something ugly.. I've already taken a couple of pictures but they need to be re-shot with a proper camera..photographers I've been inspired by are Matthew Beadle and Stephanie Gray who do a lot of work based on contrasts.

Depth of Field

For this photography project I have decided to look into Depth of Field, this topic will concentrate on the contrast between clear and blurry.
I think this project will be very interesting as i'v never done Photography before, so hopefully the end results will be good.

This image here shows a contrast between sharp and blurry capturing a figure walking by. This photograph has been done in a similar style to Duane Michals "The Annunciation," by focusing the image so the figure is blurred and the background remains sharp and clear.

last nights photography, by me :)

The idea i wanted to develop for contrasts came from looking at this picture done by David LaChapelle. When i first found this photo, i was drawn to the man in the centre; he stands extremely muscle y and tanned amongst a lot of young boys, with completely the opposite physique to him. I then thought about maybe using the idea of fake and artificial Vs. innocence and natural beauty for my project. For this i could have a photo of a model looking very plastic and fake with alot of make-up on, and maybe even photo-shop the image. Then contrast this photo with a second, this time of the same model, but with no make-up, jewellery, photo-shopping etc. just showing natural beauty, and rawness. Although, i dont know what other images could show this other than appearance; what are other aspects of fake and natural beauty?

Moon, down to earth

From last week's session. It really is the moon.

Contrast - (Unsurprisingly) Black and White

The style I'll be investigating for this project is unnatural(?) lightings, as seen in above images by alternative brand H Naoto.
The backgrounds, especially the clouds, seem to be very gloomy and heavy; while the lighting on the model is very energetic and bright. As I have zero knowledge in lightings, I will have to learn more about it to prepare for the real thing.
My idea is to shoot two images, somewhere between portraits and fashion shoot. One in black clothing standing against somewhere light; and another one in a white Lolita dress in front of relatively dark and gloomy background. Although the styles are not mainstream, they are not bizarre. I won't scare you guys.
As I have the clothes and (sort of) know what I want, I think I would be my own model and try working with tripods.
My idea is to contrast the ideas of ugliness and beauty. I have found examples of people taking something boring or ugly and photographing/editing it in a way that looks beautiful. I also plan to take a photo and ask several people what they think of it, to compare peoples opinions of what is beautiful and what is ugly.

What i'm planning on doing! (contrast)

After research I like the work of Baron Wilson, who was a photographer for the magazine 'Rolling Stone'. He captured the onstage emotion of famous musicians. (AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash etc.)

I like the idea of capturing emotion in the photo, so intend on taking portraitures showing different emotion, showing a contrast. (not staged).

I am between several ideas but my main focus will be aimed at the themes of nature and landscapes. I want to explore abstract landscapes such as red skies at sunset. I will not be able to capture images like beautiful sunsets because its winter! i do have an artists to look at but at this time i am unable to remember the name.
Im thinking of looking into the contrast between beauty and ugliness- taking something beautiful and making it look ugly. Maybe a flower or leaves and watching it decay over time. I could take photo's of the subject every day and create a sequence. It might be better to work with more than one object, maybe a scene or people, im not too sure yet.

Contrasts

I am going to be looking at people's opinion of an image when faces are removed. I am hoping to find contrasts between the opinions I collect. I am struggling with how I am going to present this. I am thinking about having a series of photos and each photo will have one opinion written underneath. thoughts please. X

First imagery

This is an image of a swing in my backgarden. Took it not long ago but just wanted to show the presense of linear shapes existing in simple man made forms.

Second Image

This is another image I took on a country walk. I think the sky is very dramatic and striking, it has quite an intense mood and emotion to it as if a storm is coming. I also like the contrast between the man made electricity pylons to the natural surroundings around it.

First image

This is an image i took during a country walk, I liked the perspective and how all the lines flow into the centre. It has a very dramatic feel as the colours are quite vibrant which I think enhances the images mood. Although the colours are very harsh, it conveys a mood which is very peaceful.

Theme of my project

For my project I am going to be focusing on weather and it's surroundings. I think it is going to be very interesting as I can incorporate things such as lighting, landscapes and maybe black and white to it, this means I can experiment with lot's of different techniques throughout the course.
I chose weather because it allows me to use other types of contrast, but will also give me a good opportunity to practice my editing skills on Photoshop. Also landscapes are my favorite type of photography as you can capture lots of different moods based on colors and tones.

I think researching a photographer called Jim Red will be a good start to my project as he produces lots of high quality images related to my theme. I will then carry on researching my theme and developing it further until I reach a final outcome.

YAYYYY

’ve previously been viewing images of Edward Weston (who was a great photographer of the 20th century). By viewing his many images I notice how the genre curves come up a lot, considering he does some nude shoots. His most celebrated image is ‘pepper’ in which a deformed pepper is taken on a black/grey screen. In this image you can see the detail produced including the texture and tones.

So my chosen ‘contrast’ genre I am going to work on will probably be ‘curves and lines’.

What also catches my eye about his photography is that they are black and white (being from the 30’s). I believe this gives a great effect and provides a better contrasting image.

I am also on the verge of choosing whether to shoot still life imagery or real life imagery. Producing images of still life would be easy to do, lighting wise but I feel real life may bring up a better story if I were to create a sequence of images.

What I'll Probably Be Doing to Contrast

I will hopefully blend in areas I like over atmospheric and overall natural contrasts from ether simple or rather sometimes unusually placed surroundings. Maybe the odd Movement differentiation and Martial arts attack array.

.......Maybe

Week 2

Here is an image that was taken last Thursday using the delayed shutter speed, this technique is called creative camera shake.
The lights here appear to look very vibrant and quite expressive creating all these different shapes, this seems to create a contrast with the plain background.
